#LOWER sessions. ‘Roundabouthere (Rightaboutnow)’ LISTEN HERE. #ATFU
Recorded for ‘LOWER’, definitely fun, kinda the companion piece to ‘Shake’ from ‘The Tinkerer’. Just a dirty, techno fonkin, poppin, lockin ass shaker…Twerk fummy.
Anyway, up until about 10 days ago, it was the second track on the album…now, it’s a bonus track or sumn. I dig it, personally, but had to accept that within the concept of the ALBUM I was trying to make, it didn’t work as well as I wanted it to.
I moved it around in the sequence, I remixed it, I rethought it…just couldn’t find a way to make it work for ‘LOWER’ when it was all said and done…
…still want y’all to hear it tho…
There it is.
#LOWER, still…(but not nomo for this one…)
Ay…hope your day has been great. Getting some stuff together to stream for y’all.
I told ya, I recorded a LOTTA music for ‘LOWER’…I’m definitely gonna put out the majority of it.
Here’s a cover I thought might make the cut, but it didn’t end up working within the flow of the album. I had fun widdit tho…Stones, baby.
They calling me ‘Slim Jagger’ out here…
So, yeah, man…if you’ve been keeping up, you know I’m about a year into this whole new thang where I do everything on the albums. They’re really ‘solo’ albums, so if you don’t dif them, there’s no one to blame but me.
There’s a totally incredible feeling when you’re doing everything for the album. You LIVE with it, literally…and so do the people around you.
I have always said these albums that I have put out were like ‘children’. I live with em, I work with em all day, just getting them to a point where I can send them out into the world to represent me and themselves well.
With ‘The Tinkerer’, I was learning to paint…with ‘LOWER’, I’m sculpting, comfortably.
‘The Tinkerer’ was more or less, a loose concept album about the joy of discovery, science, and having to overcome fear of the unknown to get to (and create something) great. It was my first time being responsible for everything on an album, from the music, to the narrative, to the mixdown…everything. I tied all that into the album itself; it really is an album about making the album, dressed up as a mad scientist/monster flick.
I was at home, in my little music-room (calling it a ‘studio’ sounds pretentious. I made ‘The Tinkerer’ and ‘LOWER’ on the laptop on which I am typing this and there ain’t no ‘drum room’ in my house), figuring out how to use all this stuff that had been sitting here at my disposal for YEARS. ’The Tinkerer’ was about creating a whole new thing from bits and pieces of what was already there, just like Dr. Frankenstein zapping life into dead body parts…
…or Afrika Bambaataa playing ‘breaks’ in the park…
…or Jimi Hendrix utilizing the ‘mistake’ of feedback to make a guitar sound like a dolphin.
…or Andy Warhol realizing that those soup cans might look cool presented differently.
You get the idea by now…I think I’m Nikolai Tesla, yo. Art is science, science is art.
I didn’t realize I was starting ‘LOWER’ when I started it. That’s kinda how it works, I write a few tunes…and a few weeks later, I’m looking at a batch of songs for a project. The project then begins to define itself as I follow where the spirit takes me to make the music.
The whole time I was crafting what would become ‘LOWER’, I was listening to (and studying) David Bowie. I’d bang out the rare new release here-and-there, but would always go back to the Bowie. I bought pretty much all his studio albums and absorbed them, totally enjoying the process of discovering this ‘new’ classic artist. It was ‘new’ to me; obviously, I was familiar with his work and had a singles collection, but this was my first time delving into the albums and the characters and mythology he created. It was pretty awesome, yo, pretty damn awesome. Maybe I can be that for someone else; I sure enough have the discography…and I’m still adding on and growing.
I found the focus of my album at some point during that year. I had recorded about 10 songs at that point. Once I knew what I wanted to do, I kept writing, remixing, producing, adding on…I ended up with about 35 songs to pick from for ‘LOWER’. I had the album down to 19 tracks up until about a week ago, when the process of resequencing required me to actually cut some tracks. Sometimes, you hafta cut things away to get to what you’re really trying to do.
Now, I’m there, man. I took the bandages off and realized I was ‘The Thin Beige Duke’.
All the Bowie, the science-fiction, ‘space’, the sounds, the soul, the synths, the FONK…it’s there. ‘The Tinkerer’ was The ‘Kid ‘making a man’. ‘LOWER’ is the soundtrack to a movie about that very man building a spaceship in his back yard. (I don’t wanna give it away, but the spaceship actually ends up working…)
I guess the next move is to get the finished product to you, huh? Word…I can’t wait and we’re tryna make that happen asaptually…
…along with some ‘…other’ things.

Wu-Tang Clan vs. Rusty Redenbacher - ’C.R.E.A.M. Gettin LOWER’
This ain’t a remix, per se…it’s just me getting ready to mix records for my next lil thang, ‘FREE SOUL RADIO’ and digging the blend. Just thought I’d share.
The instrumental is ‘My Game, My Time’, from my forthcoming LP, ‘LOWER’. The rap is that Wu shit, obviously…and if it wasn’t obvious to you, shame on you. #SUUUUUUUU

“I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney / You lazy b——es is f—-ing up the economy.”
This doesn’t surprise me at all because she’s rich…and white.
Now, if this clown says, “Oh, that was ‘Roman’” or “I was just rappin.”, then I will lose any microshred of respect I had for her. If she really is voting that way, then I think she should explain it…and how can someone who made all that dough in the last four years (which she has) be talking about the economy being “f-cked up” and who are these “lazy bitches” that are doing that?
This is an endorsement for a candidate two months before the election in a format that will get into a lotta ears.
I want answers. You ain’t GOTTA tell nobody who you’re voting for, hence the curtains on the booth, so when you throw it out there, people wanna know why.
Welcome to the discussion, Nicki.
@E40 be rappin his ASS off…and this is my favorite song that 2Pac is part of. This is SO NASTY.
I gotta shout out the LEGENDARY DJ TEC!, for making me listen to E-40 all those years ago at Rockin’ Billy’s Records. I was the ‘East Coast guy’ (although I was raised in Indianapolis, heheh…). Tec! pretty much told me to quit sleeping on 40 Water, Cheese co-signed that. I resisted at first, but eventually realized that I was listening to a completely one-of-a-kind rapper, one of the most inventive cats to do this and technically, a BEAST.
Bewsey told me about how E-40 used to drop the Sic Wid It releases off at the store HIMSELF. Son, OG INDEPENDENT HUSTLE…driving across the country, selling his music and starting a movement and BUSINESS.
