#NaptownSlim speaks about ‘COMMUNICATION’.
Greetings and peace to you. Again, Naptown Slim has a word. Let me talk to you about ‘communication’.
You know why you are here, reading this? Cuz Slim communicates, in so many ways, in so many different forums and Slim stays in touch. It’s not about me giving you my truth; it’s about you hearing my truth, coming to an understanding about it, and dealing with it, and perhaps, communicating it to someone else. You may even end up communicating with me…cuz I put my truth out there and people relate to it.
I can communicate with people anywhere in the world because of the love and passion I carry in my tone, my expression, and my words. People across this world that do not hold the same native tongue as I do have communicated appreciation and admiration for my music. They can understand my passion. I communicate it daily.
I have always been one to open the lines of communication. I give a damn about people. If you have been in my life for any amount of time, you know that I don’t fake jacks…and something about me is communicating to a lotta people that don’t even know me. I do not know no five damb thousand people, but this page has been stuck on that number for about two years…and they still come to holler at Slim. My word.
If I was simply some cat with cool hair, there would be no place for me on the radio, now would there? You can’t see me when I am in here talking to you. You don’t care what I look like. You listen because we are passionate about the music and the job of radio. They told me, “Slim, we want you to be SLIM…don’t force it. Do you.” Never have better words been uttered by a boss. They communicated to me that they wanted me for ME.
What was I doing when you first encountered me? What is the first thing you think about when you think of me? I bet 90% of you will say it has something to do with music. My passion and the communication of it is obvious, if I say so myself. It has NEVER been otherwise and I have NEVER told ANYONE it would be.
To be able to effectively communicate, you hafta have a willing listener. I spent years talking to walls, while making the funkiest records and trying to figure out a way to communicate how real life was for me.
I lived in an uncomfortable place where I had to STFU all the time just to keep the peace. Biting your tongue to keep the peace leads to a bloody mouth and war.
Any relationship you have in this life with communication difficulties will not last. This is just a fact. If you got something to say to someone or something you want the world to know about yourself, you better learn how to communicate, cuz ain’t nobody got time to be tryna figure you out. There’s too many people that know how to speak up and get things done.
You’re looking at one of them and I know you hear me.
Another funky cold-blooded Naptown Slim Production.

Google my name, ‘Rusty Redenbacher’. See what I have done and am doing.
I didn’t exist as ‘Rusty Redenbacher’ until 2006.
Of course, before that I was recognized as ‘Rusty Redenbacher’ in some circles, ‘Choc Soreel’ in others, and just “the guy from Mudkids”
I started the regular TV gig in 2006. I started working on music outside of the Mudkids and going under my own name as a solo artist in 2006. I had the Mudkids page going on the Myspace (Remember that?) and was always about the group, but I built my own page for my own content starting that year, as well. That’s kinda the start of everything online for me.
I didn’t even have a computer until I bought one outta necessity to keep up with the DJ game in 2005…I was ‘DJ Rusty’ before all this, but I started making sure I was booked as ‘Rusty Redenbacher’. Buying that Apple was one of the best moves I made for myself as an promoter, writer, artist, and person who is interested in LOTS of things. It also made it really easy for me to thank people for their support too. None of that happened until 2006….because Rusty Redenbacher didn’t exist. He was on his way though. And NONE of this woulda happened if there weren’t a lotta people that cared about ‘Russell’ and helped him figure out where he belonged. There’s too many of them to name; I could tag damn near every member of my family on this page right now, honestly.
NONE of this woulda happened if there wasn’t a buncha people that let ‘Russell’ know his music spoke to them. They understood what the songs were saying and somehow, the songs felt like ‘Russell’ spoke to and for them. NONE of this woulda happened without a whole buncha people telling their friends about their friend, ‘Russell’. I could really tag a lotta y’all on this page for that one too. Now, Rusty Redenbacher is on ya radio on WTLC playing sweet R&B and soul, going to events and shaking hands with the people who listen and thanking them in person. I’m rocking every Friday and Saturday, doing whatever I need to do and being wherever I need to be to give the people my best. The ‘Kid is producing and mixing his own music in the crib with a laptop, got a double album ready to go, and still releasing music independently. That dude Rusty gotta live-ass online profile that is reaching way more people than the 5000 on this page cuz he hustles so damn hard on Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Youtube, Tumblr, and of course, I got the Twitter machines goin nuts…#SayItLikePaulWall
Dig that; I was ready to give it up and just try to DJ with my computer…that wasn’t my plan, but that was gonna be my hustle. The year before was all drag city, I had no reason to feel like I could advance in radio at that time…it was all bad. I got started late in the game really…but my hustle for independence and want/need for my voice to heard in ‘The Dialogue’ and the ability to create changed all that.
I have something to say and I WILL say it. Whether you hear it or not is on you.
That’s a stark contrast from “Yo, man…I can rap my ass off, we’re dope. I really mean it. Please listen…” which was my only option before 2006. Naw, I taught myself to edit videos, record music, and now I had another forum to talk to the people. I could get produce the word, get it out, and make it fluorish…new game…aside from that, this is my legacy. This is what I will leave the world; there will be no questions about who I am that can’t be answered by reading a blog, listening to a song, or watching a video.
It’s a new day. I think what I’ve done ain’t too bad for a 6 year-old. Google my name….and thank you for making it so I had a reason for you to do it.
Rusty Redenbacher, the artist formerly known as ‘Choc Soreel’, ‘Rock J’, and the nephew/son/cousin/brother known as ‘Russell’.
(P.S. Just walked across the yard to pick up some songs Defame is mastering for me. Saw a cat on the sidewalk who said, “You’re the dude from IMC!” and told me he’s about to start making music. Told me it was a trip to meet me. I told him I was just as excited about meeting him. That’s me, folks. That’s how I’m livin…and regardless of where I go and what I do in this life, that’s how I will always be…..)
