#NewVideo #TroubleAgain #LOWER #ATFU
Another one of those days where the urge to be creative and let you hear what I am working on took over.
This is another DIY video from my NEXT album, ‘LOWER’, which is in fact, DONE. Just timing and opportunity are what are keeping me from getting it to you.
I’m proud as a mug of this one; like ‘The Tinkerer’, I am responsible for every sound. voice and concept you will hear on ‘LOWER’. I’m excited to see what y’all think. I believe I have a nice varied range of stuff on this album, but it’s cohesive and bangs….differently.
This is ‘Trouble Again’ from ‘LOWER’, a tune where I flex the golden pipes a bit for ya. I also wanted to try some different stuff with film speeds and filters. Just goofing, man. I had a good time with it.
Holler at me, leave me some feedback.
Also, I’ll have a website soon, rustyredenbacher.com, and it will be worth visiting often.
Believe that. I’m working…whatCHOOdoin…?
Get ready for a DYNAMIC summer from myself and #ATFU.
#NewVideo - ‘Slim Get Fonkay (Slim Gon Tell It)’ - #LOWER #ATFU
Shot this with the iPhone again. Having too much fun to stop.
Wanted to get something to y’all until the ‘SHAKE’ video is ready. Saw some of it yesterday…it was looking GOOD, man. Lefty The Eye is cooking something special for The Tinkerer.
You can download ‘Slim Get Fonkay (Slim Gon Tell It)’ here…
or here.
Right on…I’ll be rocking your face more soon.
LOWER is really gonna rock your face.
#NaptownSlim - ‘Thinkin, Wishin, Prayin.’
Yuh boy Slim again, man. I just be thinking. I think so much, man…and I gotta lotta ideas about a lotta things. I’mma talk about some more real life stuff, y’all.
Some of y’all call it ‘praying’, some just say ‘wishing’, but we all want things outta life and focus on getting them some kinda way. We all want better as we get older. We all have wishes. You put these ideas in your mind and that’s cool. You’re supposed to want more outta life.
I have wished for things and prayed on them as hard as anyone has prayed. I’ve been patient. I’ve prayed for stuff that I honestly thought would make my life better as a whole. Why wouldn’t I pray for something like that?
I have gotten what I prayed for on many occasions. I have gotten just what I asked for, only to realize that it may not have been all it was cracked up to be. That WILL happen. I think it’s a real test to see what kinda person you really are.
Let’s say God gives you what you ask for…and when you get it, it’s nothing like what you expected. Who you gonna blame…? God? He/She gave you what you wanted. Can’t be mad about that.
You gotta start over at Square One with, “Maybe I asked for something I shouldn’t have…?” The God I believe in provides like a mug, so maybe your request was kinda wack…and somehow, you gotta learn from that. Sometimes, you might ask God for something only to find out that you didn’t really need it.
I always try to figure out why I am where I am, in everything in life, and how I can go forward. I think that’s what you should really wish for in life.
I think that is what you should pester God with: prayers for a better understanding of yourself and how to go forward as that person, as opposed to your petty wants and material ‘needs’.
I just be thinkin, y’all, and I appreciate the opportunity to share my thoughts with y’all.
Be cool.
Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, live tonight at The Vogue in Indianapolis, IN.
Yup. The Upsetter killed The Devil in #NAPTOWN.
So awesome, man.
I never thought I would ever get to see this man play live.
He’s been a huge influence on me since I first discovered his work through The Beastie Boys’ old magazine ‘Grand Royal’.
I found a tape (!!!) called ‘All The Hits’ for a dollar (!!!) after I read the article. That mug STAYED in the deck. My friends would come over and wonder why I was listening to this hissy, odd sounding tape EVERY TIME they came over. I don’t even think I could explain it at the time. It just touched me.
I’ve been throwing references to his work in mine ever since, going as far back as the first Mudkids album and most recently with ‘The Tinkerer’s Dub (Mpozitivity)’ on my latest release, Rusty Redenbacher - ‘The Tinkerer’
In later years, I came to realize how massive his influence was on reggae music. He recorded and produced some incredible sides for Bob Marley And The Wailers, when they were making the move from ‘ska’ into what is now recognized worldwide as ‘reggae’ music.
He invented ‘Dub’ reggae. He’s one of the first people to truly use the studio as an instrument. He was doing things with a four track in 1970 that people can’t figure out or replicate today. Just amazing.
Well, I saw Scratch kill the devil last night with Muhbabay in my hometown. It was one of the best nights out I’ve had in a long time, thought I should share some of it with you.

Had a great session today with another one of Naptown’s shining lights, The Max Allen Band.
Max and I have been trying to connect for a while now. We’re both hustling hard for what we do. Max has been recognized as a coooold-blooded guitarist since he was about 13-14 years old. The Max Allen band was actually voted as ‘Indy’s Best Rock Band’ in 2011’s Nuvo Readers’ Poll and their live shows are incendiary. Truly gifted and grooving like a big dawg, the crew asked me to be on a track called ‘You’re Gone’. I was glad to finally be able to get this one done. I think y’all gonna jump to this one.
Here’s a look at the recording session for this long overdue collaboration.
Check out The Max Allen Band at maxallenmusic.com and get ready for this one, yo.
#ATFU & MAB TOO. #NAPTOWN MUSIC IS ALIVE.
#RustyWrites
Google my name, ‘Rusty Redenbacher’. See what I have done and am doing.
I didn’t exist as ‘Rusty Redenbacher’ until 2006.
Of course, before that I was recognized as ‘Rusty Redenbacher’ in some circles, ‘Choc Soreel’ in others, and just “the guy from Mudkids”
I started the regular TV gig in 2006. I started working on music outside of the Mudkids and going under my own name as a solo artist in 2006. I had the Mudkids page going on the Myspace (Remember that?) and was always about the group, but I built my own page for my own content starting that year, as well. That’s kinda the start of everything online for me.
I didn’t even have a computer until I bought one outta necessity to keep up with the DJ game in 2005…I was ‘DJ Rusty’ before all this, but I started making sure I was booked as ‘Rusty Redenbacher’. Buying that Apple was one of the best moves I made for myself as an promoter, writer, artist, and person who is interested in LOTS of things. It also made it really easy for me to thank people for their support too. None of that happened until 2006….because Rusty Redenbacher didn’t exist. He was on his way though. And NONE of this woulda happened if there weren’t a lotta people that cared about ‘Russell’ and helped him figure out where he belonged. There’s too many of them to name; I could tag damn near every member of my family on this page right now, honestly.
NONE of this woulda happened if there wasn’t a buncha people that let ‘Russell’ know his music spoke to them. They understood what the songs were saying and somehow, the songs felt like ‘Russell’ spoke to and for them. NONE of this woulda happened without a whole buncha people telling their friends about their friend, ‘Russell’. I could really tag a lotta y’all on this page for that one too. Now, Rusty Redenbacher is on ya radio on WTLC playing sweet R&B and soul, going to events and shaking hands with the people who listen and thanking them in person. I’m rocking every Friday and Saturday, doing whatever I need to do and being wherever I need to be to give the people my best. The ‘Kid is producing and mixing his own music in the crib with a laptop, got a double album ready to go, and still releasing music independently. That dude Rusty gotta live-ass online profile that is reaching way more people than the 5000 on this page cuz he hustles so damn hard on Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Youtube, Tumblr, and of course, I got the Twitter machines goin nuts…#SayItLikePaulWall
Dig that; I was ready to give it up and just try to DJ with my computer…that wasn’t my plan, but that was gonna be my hustle. The year before was all drag city, I had no reason to feel like I could advance in radio at that time…it was all bad. I got started late in the game really…but my hustle for independence and want/need for my voice to heard in ‘The Dialogue’ and the ability to create changed all that.
I have something to say and I WILL say it. Whether you hear it or not is on you.
That’s a stark contrast from “Yo, man…I can rap my ass off, we’re dope. I really mean it. Please listen…” which was my only option before 2006. Naw, I taught myself to edit videos, record music, and now I had another forum to talk to the people. I could get produce the word, get it out, and make it fluorish…new game…aside from that, this is my legacy. This is what I will leave the world; there will be no questions about who I am that can’t be answered by reading a blog, listening to a song, or watching a video.
It’s a new day. I think what I’ve done ain’t too bad for a 6 year-old. Google my name….and thank you for making it so I had a reason for you to do it.
Rusty Redenbacher, the artist formerly known as ‘Choc Soreel’, ‘Rock J’, and the nephew/son/cousin/brother known as ‘Russell’.
(P.S. Just walked across the yard to pick up some songs Defame is mastering for me. Saw a cat on the sidewalk who said, “You’re the dude from IMC!” and told me he’s about to start making music. Told me it was a trip to meet me. I told him I was just as excited about meeting him. That’s me, folks. That’s how I’m livin…and regardless of where I go and what I do in this life, that’s how I will always be…..)
