We shot the first official video from ‘The Tinkerer’ today at the Daddy Real complex. Hey man, this might end up being really cool. Not to give anything away, but I think the video footage we shot should translate into a dope video that fits the song on a few different levels.
My man, Steve, taught me about some Shakespearean shit I can add to my Kubrickian shit. Very dope. We applied all this to the video.
Steve will be editing that joint and as soon as we get the finished version, you know I will have noooo problem getting it posted as soon as possible. Keeping the ball rolling with the wild world of ‘The Tinkerer’. Nearing of the release of the album, I wanted to get this song in your eyes and ears. Lyrically, it’s one of my personal faves from the album (there’s a lotta ways you could interpret it. I like that.)
I edited this one tonight, bruh. I love to edit these things. I’m getting used to the new machine over here, so I can get the shit done kinda quick. That’s another part of The Tinkerer’s aesthetic; ‘I got a lot to say, the ideas are rolling and the clock is ticking. Let’s get this shit done.’
I didn’t wanna over-think ANYTHING about this album; I wanted the joy of what I was discovering about all kinds of stuff to translate to ‘The Tinkerer’. The album has its moments of gravity, for sure…but there’s always a bit of looseness and ‘Goofy Russ’ in the proceedings. I was learning stuff, using a new machine and using my mind in ways I hadn’t had a chance to exercise yet. It was ill AF. I’ll never forget how I felt putting this album together.
If I could put every album together like this, I would, but it took a lot outta me and took a lotta time; the week producing and writing the bulk of the tracks is more like two weeks if you consider sleep deprivation. I was in the Iron Man Monster Factory like NON-STOP for that week and came outta there with something I’m happy with…that’s what it’s about. It sounds like a week, but I spent the next month mixing the album down…and during that time I produced and wrote like seven more tracks, a few of which made ‘The Tinkerer’ and the rest were released as ‘The Minion’.

As for this tune, as I was working through the album, it was my original idea for a ‘lead single’, but I wrote the Number One Pop Tune In The Universe after this and shifted my focus to that as a single… (That’ll be the first ‘official video’ from ‘The Tinkerer’. and it’ll be a blast…)
So dig, here’s the latest video from ‘The Tinkerer’. Hope ya dig it. The album will be out before the end of the year.
