Peace, y’all. Naptown Slim wants to tell you what happened to him last night. It was an amazing thing. Listen.
That gentleman in the picture is named ‘Chris’. He saw Muhbabay and I at the Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry show, just chillin. He came over and introduced himself and let me know he dug my music, vibes, and had for a long time. We chopped it up real proper, man. Slim loves to return the love, baby.
In between sets, we stepped outside for some air and to enjoy the Indiana night. My man, Chris, was outside and said to me,
“Hey, man; I wasn’t tryna be all touristy or nothing. I really love what you’re about. I’m glad you were born.”
Son, yuh man, Slim is a cool cat, but that right there? That quote right there? I can’t think of nothing cooler to say to a fellow human being.
He asked if he could take a picture with me. I told him, “That’s crazy, cuz I was just about to ask you the same thing.”, then we took some flicks.
I told the brother where he could find me online and to stay in touch. Definitely wouldn’t be mad if I saw or heard from the homey again…and I wanna say this; Chris, I’m glad you were born too, man.
I didn’t think it could get much better than seeing Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry with the person I share my life with, but it did.
Thanks, Chris. Yuh boy Slim gotta tell it; those words moved me in a great way.

‘Until’ (Demo Version) - #FreeDownload
This is a demo version of a song that ended up being a Mudkids classic. It’s markedly different than the official version that saw it’s release on ‘Higher’ (Still a great album, man) because I made the track by mixing a buncha stuff on the turntables.
I would do this often to stay sharp with rhymes and rocking the wheels. You’ll hear the verse for ‘Until’ over a blend of C-Murder’s ‘Down For My N’s’ and a track from Dr. Octagon…and I’m pretty sure there’s something else in there…
You can click the pic to download this little peek inside my songwriting process and any Mudkids’ fans might get a kick outta hearing how this one got started because we ended up closing shows with ‘32/’Until’ pretty much every show after it was released.

This is back when we had to put three songs on the 12” so we would have the instrumentals to play live. Yeah…that was the real motivation.
The next one also contained a song that wasn’t on any MK album, ‘Numbaonesoun’. (Download link) We tried to go the extra yard when we gave you the vinyl. (I had just started my love affair with dancehall music too, it’s kinda fun for me to hear my country-boy take on that from years ago…)

This is a demo I cut in 09 for a song from the next Mudkids album…if it ever sees the light of day. That joint is DYNAMIC…and should, which is why I’m posting this. This song is just too good to have me as the only one that gets it stuck in their head. Word to Rebecca Black.
I always thought this demo was cool. Sure, there might be a couple rough harmonies, but that’s what I always dug about it. #HeyMan, this was one of the first songs that I tried to do some shit like this on, so aside from me loving the song and the subject very much, I love what it represents on personal levels too.
Tyler actually gave me what was maybe a snippet for something he was working on and I wrote to it. (That’s kinda my method. Sometimes, I just write. Sometimes, I write to the beat and sometimes, a beat moves me to write. This was a beat that moved me to write…) Once I was finished, I had the first verse and the chorus and that was gonna be the whole song. It was just gonna be a lil ditty…just a lil ditty to cleanse the pallet of all that BOOM BAP and such. Or maybe it was a set-up for other stuff, because it led to me really tapping into some emotional territory…
#ButAnywayDoe, I had decided to add a second verse, which led to ‘Rusty Learning How To Edit On Garageband’ (you’ll hear me miss the verrrrrrrry first cut to start the second verse and go “Mmmmmm’ cuz I had been working on it for hours and couldn’t get it juuuuust right. I’ve learned how since tho….) The second cut I made you won’t even notice… (that’s when I had figured it out *pats self on back* #FastLearner)
I sent this to my dear friend Jani when I recorded it cuz it was inspired by something she said in a tweet. “I hope Tuesday doesn’t suck like Monday did.”, something to that effect…and I was like, “Yeah, I can dig that.”. Word to The Boomtown Rats
