#Planking
Welp, I hope you’re all satisfied. I had been able to live without it since the tragedy that was ‘Plankapalooza ‘02’ (RIP; Johnny ‘2x4’ Jenkins. I told them not to jump on your back…) but you folks had to bring my secret shame back into my life via Twitter.
I’m a planker.
I picked up the habit from my Grandfather John, as you can see in the first pic. He planked in front of me at a very young age. I think he knew I was a natural and there was no way he wouldn’t see his his first grandson be the best. My Uncles are all a bit more…shall we say ‘portly’ than me. My Grandfather knew that I could be great at this. I hope he’s not upset that I stepped away from this beautiful art-form for so long.
When I saw everyone on my Twitter timeline talking about ‘planking’ for the last few days, I knew that I was in trouble. It had been years and the memories of the tragedy still haunted me. I really never thought I would do it after after what happened to Johnny…
…then, a voice…
“Russ, you know you were born to do this. Make me proud…”
I walked into my boss’ office at IMC-TV and attempted my first plank since ‘Johnny Go Splat’. Perfect 10. The rush was back. I made my way into the mix-lab at Hot 96.3 and let them know that while you may be mixing some fiiiiiiiiiiiii-yah records in the ‘5 O’Clock Mikki Fikki Mix’, there’s some HELLAFIED PLANKIN’ FINNA HAPPEN HERE! After that, I had to show my man, Jay Rio, the ‘power of the plank’, bustin a LEGENDARY ‘floor plank’ (kid stuff, really). As intoxicated as I was to be fulfilling the destiny my Grandfather established for me so long ago, alas, it was time to tape “‘The Rock Block’ on IMC with Rusty Redenbacker.” (sic) -______-
…but just one more…with metal horns. \m/ (don’t try that one, only for the advanced)
I am a planker…and dammit, I’m proud. Let me lie straight, let me be great.

So @RioOntheRadio and @BSWIFT317 hit me on the hip (does anyone still say that? thought I’d try it out one time) last night tawgmbout… “AIGHT, RUSTY WE NEED YOU TO FIRE UP THE TROOPS AGAIN!!”
This happens every year when the NFL Playoffs start. @MUDKIDS released TWO Super Bowl records and videos during the Colts’ runs in ‘06 and ‘10. Both records received national press…and they were both hot. Word up.
Here’s a bit about me I am proud of; I’m the only local cat I know that had the same record played on EVERY format. It’s hard enough to get a record on the radio, but the idea that EVERYBODY where I live was getting behind these records was pretty cool…it’s appreciated. But I announced EARLY that I didn’t wanna be the cat with ‘The Colts Record’ and I have EIGHT albums I have been a part of, independently, that I would love for you to check out. That’s what I do while the Colts do what they do…sometimes our worlds intersect, but I really feel like someone else should grasp the opportunity and run with it.
People get real fired up about them COLTS’ #BARS, yo. When we did the first one in ‘06, it came together because someone asked us to do it. It was never really planned. The second one was done based on public demand and really wanting another damn ring…but moreso because the people seemed to really want it…)
…but my G needed me and he just played me on the radio between Nicki Minaj and Waka. Just now…yeah, that happened. ALLEY.
Yeah, it’s all good.. GO COLTS.
