HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JAMES BROWN!
WOO! CELEBRATE THE GODFATHER!! He gave us so much…
SOUL BROTHER NUMBER ONE!
MR. DYNAMITE!
LET…
#LOWER sessions. ‘Roundabouthere (Rightaboutnow)’ LISTEN HERE. #ATFU
Peace peace…
Recorded for ‘LOWER’, definitely fun, kinda the companion piece to ‘Shake’ from ‘The Tinkerer’. Just a dirty, techno fonkin, poppin, lockin ass shaker…Twerk fummy.
Anyway, up until about 10 days ago, it was the second track on the album…now, it’s a bonus track or sumn. I dig it, personally, but had to accept that within the concept of the ALBUM I was trying to make, it didn’t work as well as I wanted it to.
I moved it around in the sequence, I remixed it, I rethought it…just couldn’t find a way to make it work for ‘LOWER’ when it was all said and done…
…still want y’all to hear it tho…
There it is.
Twerk fummy.
…and there’s more.

ENJOY. It’s still #MusicMonday somewhere!
#NewVideo #TroubleAgain #LOWER #ATFU
Another one of those days where the urge to be creative and let you hear what I am working on took over.
This is another DIY video from my NEXT album, ‘LOWER’, which is in fact, DONE. Just timing and opportunity are what are keeping me from getting it to you.
I’m proud as a mug of this one; like ‘The Tinkerer’, I am responsible for every sound. voice and concept you will hear on ‘LOWER’. I’m excited to see what y’all think. I believe I have a nice varied range of stuff on this album, but it’s cohesive and bangs….differently.
This is ‘Trouble Again’ from ‘LOWER’, a tune where I flex the golden pipes a bit for ya. I also wanted to try some different stuff with film speeds and filters. Just goofing, man. I had a good time with it.
Holler at me, leave me some feedback.
Also, I’ll have a website soon, rustyredenbacher.com, and it will be worth visiting often.
Believe that. I’m working…whatCHOOdoin…?
Get ready for a DYNAMIC summer from myself and #ATFU.
Dig this, just a lil something I put together to let you know what’s going on here.
I’m about done with ‘LOWER’. It’s funky, raw, and real. Again, I am responsible for every sound you hear on this album, just like ‘The Tinkerer’.
There will be a companion piece for ‘LOWER’ called ‘OTHER’ consisting of outtakes and remixes. Fon kay.
Stay tuned for release dates and more info…
Yuh man, Rusty in Indiana gets busy…

#JunieMorrison #GrannysFunkyRollsRoyce
When I was liiiiiittle boy, my Uncle Marc made sure to educate me on the FUNK. I’m thankful for these lessons to this day.
You may very well know Junie Morrison as the keyboardist for the Ohio Players in their early days. He’s sooo nasty with it, man. That “WEEEEEE DEEEEDLE DEE DEEEE” sound you’ve heard sampled from ‘Funky Worm’ a kajillion times…? That’s all Junie. The ‘Granny’ voice… “Play it now.”…all Junie. Junie fonkay dennamug, man.
He had an album called ‘Freeze’ that I LOVED as a kid cuz my Uncle Marc would have me CRACKING UP off the ‘Granny’ interludes. It’s probably one of the first albums I can recall having ‘skits’ on it, as you will hear on the intro to this song. The single edit just starts with the drum fill, but the intro makes it so much more for the ‘Kid when it does kick in. So epic. This song and ‘The Cookies Will Get You’ were on repeat like a mug.
When I worked at Rockin’ Billy’s, this kid named Zach used to come in to buy used soul records and rap to me about what he was discovering. He was about 16 when we met and his older brother worked with someone who was close to me, so we had that in common and eventually, we had a lotta similarities when it came to musical taste. I told him about this Junie album and if he ever found it to GRAB that joint IMMECHATLEEEEE!!
Zach went off to college and continued his quest for knowledge AND the funk. He returned one summer and came thru the store. He asked me if I had found the ‘Freeze’ album, which I hadn’t. He said ‘Well, I did’ and pulls up a perfect copy of it.
“WHAT? WHAT?! DUDE, you gotta burn that to a CD for me!”
“Nah, I bought that for you, man. I found it at a flea market. I knew how much you wanted it.”
Wow. Just WOW. One of the coolest things that has ever happened for me, as a fan of music and culture and being a record-hawk. Just too cool.
About six months later, I got a call from his brother. He had bad news. My homey had fallen into a diabetic coma and never woke up. It hurts me to even type that out. He was such a great kid. It was the ultimate punch in the nuts. Dude was way too young and I had JUST talked with him, man. I had only gotten to know him through our love of music, but I really did look forward to seeing more of the cat. I just couldn’t believe it. I still can’t sometimes.
But, now, when I listen to Junie Morrison or the early Ohio Players stuff, not only do I think of my funky Uncles, but I think of my young pal, Zach, who was kind enough to remember that there was a dude at the record-store at home that really loved that music and blessed me by returning a piece of my childhood I thought would only live in my memories.
So, I wanted to share this with y’all and I hope you like it. It’s from me, my Uncle Marc and my pal, Zach…we all know it’s funky and we all wanna share.
Peace…and save that money so YOU can get a funky Rolls Royce…or #maby you’ll get one for your birthday.
(P.S. - Life is short. Live this shit, man.)
#ATFU #Bang #NewTrack #ListenHere
I chopped this up into the pieces I wanted and started on the arrangement of this last night. Chilled all day, just knocked this out about 15 minutes ago. Ain’t even heard it in the whip and I wanted to share it with you because I think it’s REALLY ILL.
I had no intentions of making a jazz track or whatever, man…I just did what I felt as I went along. I make the tracks as I go, no sequencers. I go back and listen and count and use all the things I learned about rhythm and the mixing of music from rhyming and being a DJ to help me figure out where the changes should go. I pieced this entire thing together on Garageband, which I have found to be a REMARKABLE program. (I’ve been using it for three years to record vocals and had no idea how much you could do with production on it. #ItsANewDay.)
Kid, I didn’t even trigger these joints with the keyboard or nothing. Just funky with the edits, baby. I dig this joint, man. Lemme know what you think. My disc just got done burning and I’m gonna go listen in the car.
#PUNKROCKTHISSHIT in a jazzy style….and GIVE THE DRUMMER SOME.
