Diversity Day, Lesson 1
I was accused of playing a ‘race card’ when I pointed out that the GOP was plainly and simply the voice of old white men and those were the only people they were concerned about, listening to, or would place any faith in…
Lemme know when I lied…me telling you the truth that you can plainly see ain’t no ‘race card’; it’s the facts.
And the next time anyone wants to accuse me of playing a ‘race card’, I’d like it if they knew what they were talking about. Until you find me some leading voices in the GOP that are concerned about women, minorities, and the concerns of ALL Americans, I’ll stand by anything I have said.
(I’ll even give you bonus points if it’s a woman or someone of color…getting the same forums, considerations, and chances to express their views on Fox News or any other outlet that leans right OR left. I see no women from the ‘binder’ or minorities in the picture on the bottom.)
Don’t get mad at me, I’m just the messenger and you see exactly what I do.

Where Slim be…where I’m at…
I’m grateful…I’m thankful…for you, just cuz you’re checking for Slim…and Slim has a lot for you to check for. That’s a blessing. Thank you…
…and everyone else that can see this or has taken a minute to turn on the radio and hear what Slim is doing…each and every one of you has my deeeep appreciation.
I can definitely say that I’m focused on bringing something familiar, yet different every Friday night…fonkay and real on the radio for three straight hours. That’s fly.
I can definitely say that there isn’t another radio show like ‘Club 106.7’ on the airwaves of Naptown. I really get into making that three hours something dope that you wish you had tapes of every week.
The good folks at 106.7 WTLC asked me to do ME within what they already do and I grew up on…I LOVE doing this show for y’all. For three hours every week, I rock the airwaves with all KINDS of stuff, man…records that we heard at rinks, clubs, discotheques, on cassettes our friends brought back on summer vacation, and of course, the RADIO…
I’m on the station that shaped a lotta parts of my personality…repping the city I grew up in, With Tender Loving Care.
Now, THAT’S fonkay.
Peace and blessings, y’all…I got the soundtrack if you need me, every weekend.

I’ve said for a majority of my life my family is like the Simpsons. We have the same amount of people, I’m the youngest then my sister then my brother, my dads a big guy, my mom has always been pretty and stuff (my moms plus sized though) and my papa (before he passed) was a little kooky. This really made me cry because, one, wow Lisa is polybimorous and I always loved her hair when they showed her older, two MAGGIE, three, loser oldest son (my brother!), four, grandpa :,c I just…it really made me sad. I grew up with them always staying the same age. Seeing them grow up and stuff…it makes me realise /I/ need to grow up myself..I’ve been waiting my whole life for this
Yes!
LISA IS A POLYAMOROUS BISEXUAL
Ohmygod
Oh thank got someone got shots for each scene. This is perfect.
#LOWER #ATFU
So, yeah, man…if you’ve been keeping up, you know I’m about a year into this whole new thang where I do everything on the albums. They’re really ‘solo’ albums, so if you don’t dif them, there’s no one to blame but me.
There’s a totally incredible feeling when you’re doing everything for the album. You LIVE with it, literally…and so do the people around you.
I have always said these albums that I have put out were like ‘children’. I live with em, I work with em all day, just getting them to a point where I can send them out into the world to represent me and themselves well.
With ‘The Tinkerer’, I was learning to paint…with ‘LOWER’, I’m sculpting, comfortably.
‘The Tinkerer’ was more or less, a loose concept album about the joy of discovery, science, and having to overcome fear of the unknown to get to (and create something) great. It was my first time being responsible for everything on an album, from the music, to the narrative, to the mixdown…everything. I tied all that into the album itself; it really is an album about making the album, dressed up as a mad scientist/monster flick.
I was at home, in my little music-room (calling it a ‘studio’ sounds pretentious. I made ‘The Tinkerer’ and ‘LOWER’ on the laptop on which I am typing this and there ain’t no ‘drum room’ in my house), figuring out how to use all this stuff that had been sitting here at my disposal for YEARS. ’The Tinkerer’ was about creating a whole new thing from bits and pieces of what was already there, just like Dr. Frankenstein zapping life into dead body parts…
…or Afrika Bambaataa playing ‘breaks’ in the park…
…or Jimi Hendrix utilizing the ‘mistake’ of feedback to make a guitar sound like a dolphin.
…or Andy Warhol realizing that those soup cans might look cool presented differently.
You get the idea by now…I think I’m Nikolai Tesla, yo. Art is science, science is art.
I didn’t realize I was starting ‘LOWER’ when I started it. That’s kinda how it works, I write a few tunes…and a few weeks later, I’m looking at a batch of songs for a project. The project then begins to define itself as I follow where the spirit takes me to make the music.
The whole time I was crafting what would become ‘LOWER’, I was listening to (and studying) David Bowie. I’d bang out the rare new release here-and-there, but would always go back to the Bowie. I bought pretty much all his studio albums and absorbed them, totally enjoying the process of discovering this ‘new’ classic artist. It was ‘new’ to me; obviously, I was familiar with his work and had a singles collection, but this was my first time delving into the albums and the characters and mythology he created. It was pretty awesome, yo, pretty damn awesome. Maybe I can be that for someone else; I sure enough have the discography…and I’m still adding on and growing.
I found the focus of my album at some point during that year. I had recorded about 10 songs at that point. Once I knew what I wanted to do, I kept writing, remixing, producing, adding on…I ended up with about 35 songs to pick from for ‘LOWER’. I had the album down to 19 tracks up until about a week ago, when the process of resequencing required me to actually cut some tracks. Sometimes, you hafta cut things away to get to what you’re really trying to do.
Now, I’m there, man. I took the bandages off and realized I was ‘The Thin Beige Duke’.
All the Bowie, the science-fiction, ‘space’, the sounds, the soul, the synths, the FONK…it’s there. ‘The Tinkerer’ was The ‘Kid ‘making a man’. ‘LOWER’ is the soundtrack to a movie about that very man building a spaceship in his back yard. (I don’t wanna give it away, but the spaceship actually ends up working…)
I guess the next move is to get the finished product to you, huh? Word…I can’t wait and we’re tryna make that happen asaptually…
…along with some ‘…other’ things.

A Partial List Of Men Who Are English

Tell me again how your objection to Idris Elba playing James Bond is rooted in his identity as an Englishman.
Boop.
#LOWER - final sequence, finally. #ATFU
So yeah…
This is it. 16 tracks. I resequenced it, trimmed some fat, got it to where it’s a nice, lean machine that rooooolls the way it’s supposed to.
I wrote, produced, performed, recorded, and mixed about 35 songs for this album, man. To get it to a point where it became ‘LOWER’, I had to make some moves, man…moving tracks around, remove some tracks. I wanted to give y’all an ALBUM. I alw
‘LOWER’ is now AN ALBUM. It was AN ALBUM when it had 20 tracks, it’s a BETTER ALBUM with 16 tracks. It’s focused. I had announced a sequence before, probably a little premature with that. Heh.
Bangin now tho….gonna be hitting y’all with some more tracks here soon and figuring out a release date. Proud of this one, man. Another fonkay Naptown Slim production, I am The Thin Beige Duke. Cooooold-blooded.
‘LOWER’…soon, man. This is it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIMI!!
Peace, y’all. #NaptownSlim here again, layin in the cut, scoping it all out. The ‘Kid was up dumb early working to make your radio rock. Slim is tired for real, but a very good ‘tired’.
I hustled hard for mine, learned some new stuff and the show stayed rolling. I chilled behind the scenes and made it tick. I’m a gear in the machine and the people need what they NEED. Slim is glad to be a trusted part of something bigger than himself cuz that’s how I wanna walk thru the world, man. It’s what #ATFU is and is for. It’s real life, anyway you look at it.
Yo, straight up, I’m sleepy, man. Adjusting this fonkay sleep pattern is a trip, but Slim can and WILL be there to get the job done, for the people that depend on me and the people that need what they NEED.
…love your work, it really does reflect you. Hustle hard, apply your talents, and love that craft.
Be great. This is the word of #NaptownSlim. #ATFU is WORKIN. Peace.
I’ve given up on personal space once I come into the house. It’s actually quite nice to be greeted so enthusiastically…and he’s 10 years old. He’s got a right. That’s my dude.
